Communication – Could Going Old School Benefit Your Bottom Line?

By the Operations Team, Summerfield Management

Open communication and the engaging personalities of your On-site staff are a big part of what keep residents happy and extending their leases.

Another easy and effective way to keep positive feelings flowing is through providing a community newsletter.

For example, each month our On-site teams gather together and create a list of important updates, such as additions to the fitness center, a new coffee bar added in the amenity room, or an EV charging station now open in the parking garage.

We also include fun social activities, such as resident appreciation events and our much anticipated Deck the Door contest around the Christmas season.

Of course, we include important reminders that residents may have forgotten, such as cleaning up after their pets, recycling/trash rules, or reminders to provide new renter’s insurance when they sign their lease renewal but the updates and social activities are what keep residents reading.

The simplest way to distribute a newsletter to residents is an email blast.

However, we’ve found Tenants often ignore emails coming from the property, so we’ve come up with an alternative strategy that really works.

First, we design our newsletter so it’s visually appealing, with fun bright colors and themes.
Second, we print it out and post it. Would you believe the old school method of printing the newsletter and posting it in common areas such as elevators, leasing office, lobby, laundry rooms, etc. has proven to create higher engagement than inboxing everyone?

Sometimes old school just works better.
